BSM LINEN TEE

We’ve been working on this blank forever and finally got the BSM original cut dialled.

This is a project that has been brewing in the back of our heads for quite a while. After last Fall’s hoodie project, our attention turned to the next logical thing. A t-shirt. Compared to the hoods, coming up with a “perfect” tee felt oddly overwhelming.

It’s funny how such a simple garment can have such a range of little nuances. After years of dealing and obsessing over vintage tees, you start to accumulate a certain devotion to the subtle details and characteristics of old shirts. And now, if ever, was the time to put that devotion to the test.

The next months were spent digging through shop storage and our own stashes looking for the perfect fit and colour. Easier said than done. Hundreds and hundreds of vintage rags later, we finally got it narrowed down a bit.

We found three vintage tees which together had the right neckline, measurements, weight and colour. From those three we then created a Frankenstein. Or a mutant.

Over the last six months we’ve gone back and forth with samples, fabrics and small details trying to get the thing right. Not a reproduction. Not a history lesson. Just our version of a perfect everyday tee.

Being vintage fanatics, we naturally borrowed a thing or two from the early 90’s band tees. Single stitch included.

The biggest difference to those tees of yore is the fabric. We landed on a lightweight linen-cotton blend because we loved the texture and feel of it. It reminded us of those perfectly trashed vintage tees, minus the moth damage. Light, breathable and easy to wear.

Fit-wise, it’s wide, boxy and slightly cropped. A little weird. Just like our favourite vintage tees.

And like all the good rags, these only get better the more you wear them.
